We Love Kate Spade
We’ve loved the Kate Spade brand for a long time. But, what we’re loving even more is the announcement of a new line, Kate Spade Saturday, targeting a younger demographic and at a lower price point. We’re excited about the news and looking forward to seeing what this means for the in-store environment. Kate Spade New York stores are known for the brand’s signature storytelling style and colorful brand personality, and we’re hoping “Saturday” will bring the same upbeat energy. Stay tuned; you know we’ll be watching.

When it comes to concept retailing, it’s best to go pure. And that’s just what I did in Newport Beach where I rediscovered American Rag CIE at Fashion Island. The stores are striking in their simplistic layout, fun storytelling décor and lack of presumption.

There’s the popular theory that the best eateries tend to be dives. It’s kind of a risk, but the greater the risk, the greater the reward, right? My colleague, Nicole, and I were in Lincoln Park in Chicago recently, surrounded by retail with few food options until we walked past a little placed called Franks n’ Dawgs. The tagline is “Five Star Dining on a Bun,”—good enough for us! The place looked a little like a dive, but we dove right in.

1 Pie, 2 Pie, Red Pie, Blue Pie

We love our contests here at Chute Gerdeman. They range from chili to salsa to pumpkin carving. But on the 4th of July? It’s all about pie!

Each year the city of Columbus celebrates Independence Day with our fireworks festival—Red, White, & Boom. We’re lucky enough to be able to see the fireworks show from our building’s patio, so we Chuties do what we do best—host a party!

We invite all our employees and their families to stay for a grill out, which is where we hold our highly official CG Pie Bake Off. Everyone is invited to show off their pastry expertise (and whether that means frozen pie crust or homemade, no one’s the wiser), and of course, everyone gets to vote for their favorite. This year was our 4th annual CG Pie Bake Off, and we had 7 entries; everything from fruit pies to goo pies.

This year’s winning creation came from Mary Lynn, Brand Communications Designer and baking fanatic. Known for combining unique flavors, her Key Lime Creamsicle pie is a conglomeration of dessert favorites.

The pie combines a buttery pretzel crust, a layer of homemade key lime curd, vanilla cream filling, then a topping of homemade salted caramel. It sounds crazy, but she insists it really is easy (no, really!). Want the recipe? We figured you might. Click Here to download the recipe.
