We Love Kate Spade
We’ve loved the Kate Spade brand for a long time. But, what we’re loving even more is the announcement of a new line, Kate Spade Saturday, targeting a younger demographic and at a lower price point. We’re excited about the news and looking forward to seeing what this means for the in-store environment. Kate Spade New York stores are known for the brand’s signature storytelling style and colorful brand personality, and we’re hoping “Saturday” will bring the same upbeat energy. Stay tuned; you know we’ll be watching.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Chute Gerdeman. To all of our friends, our wish is simple this year:

May your season be one of solidarity, celebration, and unity.
May you share time with those you love.
May peace and safety be yours.

We’ll be taking a hiatus from blogging over the next two weeks, but we look forward to bringing you more posts after the new year.

With wintry weather outside, it’s the perfect time for some silver screen inspiration. Here is my list of recommended design documentary films. Grab some hot chocolate and watch them now or add them to your gift list.

Art & Copy: Inside Advertising’s Creative Revolution
Art & Copy is a powerful film about advertising and inspiration, by filmmaker Doug Pray. It reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time—people who’ve profoundly impacted our culture, yet are virtually unknown outside their industry. I especially enjoyed the stories about how some famous campaigns came to be—”Where’s the Beef?,” “Got Milk,” “Just Do It,” and “Think Different?”

In our next issue of The Gist, we’ll be featuring the goodies our colleagues created—complete with recipes to share. They don’t call it “the most wonderful time of the year” for nothing!

A handful of treats to be featured…

• Pizzelles
• Orange Oatmeal Crisp Cookies
• Alfajores Bar Cookies
• Cookie Dough Truffles
• Triple Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies
• Lemon Pistachio Wreaths

Stay tuned for The Gist next week! If you haven’t signed up, you can subscribe here.

Subtle Luxury

Weitzner products have always appealed to me with their natural feel, soft, neutral color palette, and a great sustainability story. But lately, I was wowed by Weitzner’s Nature Collection, a truly innovative, new group of wallcoverings. While the entire collection is subtly textural and luxurious, what really caught my eye is a stone veneer product that is a flexible layer of extremely thin stone, with a paper backing that installs like wallcovering. It has a true stone look, but installation is much cheaper and easier.

Here are a couple examples…

A note from the editors: “Inspiration boards” give a glimpse at the inner landscape of a creative person’s brain. The usual components tend to be images, words, sketches, photographs, swatches of material, postcards, poems, anything at all that tells a cohesive story. Boards can be used to convey a concept, a design direction, ideas for a kitchen remodel, or in our case, a personal narrative. Each month we feature an inspiration board from one of the creative spirits at Chute Gerdeman.
