We kicked off day one of GlobalShop presenting the session, “When Visual Creativity Trumps Budget: What Indie Retailers Can Teach the Big Brands.” The third most attended session at the show was a success! And the audience loved it. Bess Liscio, VP, Visual Strategy; Joanna Felder, VP, Intelligence & Brand Strategy; and Jay Highland, VP, Brand & Marketing shared their insights while incorporating lessons learned from the indie retailer perspective, and presented ways in which major retail chains could incorporate some big ideas. For a quick session recap, check out our Intelligence Report from our most recent issue of The Gist. If you’re interested, sign up for our webinar on March 15 when we’ll represent the session live.

In addition to taking the stage, we’re excited to be exhibiting on the Expo floor at GlobalShop’s first ever Design Inspiration Showcase. If you’re at the show, please stop by and see us at the Booth #3044A.
We’ve also got a team of Chuties walking the floor to check out all the new and inspiring innovations the show has to offer. We spotted a great product from HD Walls. They specialize in custom wallcoverings that can be produced from a high-resolution photo or any stylish pattern you could dream of. What drew us to them was their Bling! Metallic Special Effects product. It’s a textured, sparkling wallcovering that looks stunning when printed on.

Wrapping up our first day was an eventful A.R.E. Design Awards ceremony at Encore at the Wynn. Our very own Denny Gerdeman, last year’s Markopoulos award-winner, presented Eric Feigenbaum with the 2012 honor. We saw some inspiring retail win in all the design award categories including Store of the Year—awarded to Louis Vuitton Island Maison store in Singapore. We were also proud to receive a lighting award for our C&A Iguatemi flagship.
Another notable portion of the awards ceremony was devoted to the PAVE-sponsored 3D StudentDesign Challenge. Our Co-founder & CEO, Denny Gerdeman (also the PAVE president) presented the student awards. This year’s challenge was to design a branded 3D floor fixture specifically for a “makeover station” for an existing cosmetics brand. Students had the opportunity to create a design and work with B+N Industries to produce a prototype. They were able to see the final unveiling of their efforts upon arrival at GlobalShop. We were very impressed with the final products—very innovative. All fixtures are beautifully presented on the Expo floor at B+N’s booth.
